Drayton Manor Park
Situated just north of Birmingham, Drayton
is within easy reach of the main motorway
network. Near Tamworth on the A4091.
Drayton Manor boasts over 100 rides and
attractions and viewers to their website
can see (or print off) a full list.
For funpark.co.uk we've simply highlighted
a handful.

'Maelstrom', a stomach-churning gyro-swing. 32
riders, all seated in a circle with
over-the-shoulder restraints face outwards
for a better view... assuming they can (or
want to!) keep their eyes open. The
circular gondola sits at the end of a
17.4m long pendulum then swings into
action to a height of 22.5m at an angle of
95° to 120°, while simultaneously
whirling and revolving... It's not for the
faint hearted!
Of the 'Big Rides'
Apocolypse offers riders a terrifying
50mph drop at the mercy of gravity. As the
website suggests, not a ride for the
faint-hearted. Riders either sit or
stand and then find themselves tilted 20o
from vertical and hoisted skyward.... then
subjected to a devastating drop of 180
feet during which a G force of 4+ kicks
in. It's described as like falling
from Nelson's Column (except that monument
is only 172 feet tall!) There is a
height restriction for riders of 1.4
meters (standing) and 1.2 meters (seated).

One
million guests each year ride
'Shockwave' Drayton Manor's
signature ride since 1994. It's Europe's
only stand-up roller coaster. The
Roller coaster Club of Great Britain voted
it the "best stand up roller coaster
in the world". Track length=500m,
lift hill=31m, G-Force=4+, 2 x corkscrews,
1 x loop, 1 x in-line spiral. The
picture (taken from a distance) shows the
ride in it's park setting.
StormForce
10 is Drayton's wet-knuckle
ride, officially opened in 1999 by the pop
group 'Steps'. It's the fastest
wet-knuckle ride in Britain (top speed
40mph) and the first of its type in
Europe. G Force=3+, ride duration=
4mins, largest drop= 16m, 3 x drops 1
reverse. There's a rider height
restriction of 900mm.
On the right, a couple of
thrill-seekers hang on during a stint on
the water attraction 'Splash
Canyon'. As well as whirls and
rapids, this ride features special effects
machines that generate waves and fog......
yes, fog... we had to look twice !!
There's a height restriction of 900mm.
