Wicksteed Park
Wicksteed Park's beginnings can be traced back to 1913 when Charles Wicksteed purchased a tract of Northamptonshire meadowland near Kettering with the intention of developing a model village for his growing engineering workforce. Unfortunately, the onset of the
1914 war put this plan on hold, but then in 1916, he formed a Charitable Trust to administer the estate and its funds, something that the Trust continues to do to this day.
Despite the passing of the years since the park officially opened in 1921, the basic layout designed by Charles Wicksteed remains virtually unaltered to this day. This is a lasting tribute to a man whose foresight, inventiveness and philanthropy has provided millions of people with many hours of enjoyment over the years.
Wicksteed Park's attractions are divided into four distinct 'themed' areas, each with
it's own character and rides. A good way to start
the day at Wcksteed is in the free playground.
From their many folk go onto the rides situated behind the
Playground area. Then, just a short walk down a hill and
you come to the lakes in the 'Lakeside area', where most of the rides feature fun and water in equal amounts. Following along the shore of the lake will lead you to the
area which contains most of Wicksteed's larger rides.
This area - called the 'Arena' - contains rides like the stomach churning Gyroscopes, Revolving Paratrooper and the main thriller - the ROLLER COASTER!. Running around the outskirts of the Arena
are wicksteed's exhilarating Le-Mans style twin-seater Racing Cars - capable of top speeds of twenty five miles per hour. For the younger rider there are just as many 'pint-sized' thrills available - like
the Canadian Train, Mini Aeroplanes, The Labybird Roller Coaster and the Cup & Saucer ride. When
tired feet eventually take their toll visitors can
'let the train take the strain' with a journey on the Miniature
Railway. It's the perfect end to a perfect day!
Wicksteed
also has an 'Arcade' area where you'll find the latest arcade and racing games, together with the usual family amusements such as table air hockey, pinball and fruit machines, as well as host of mini rides. The Shops, Pottery, Ticket Office, Hall of Mirrors, Ice Cream Factory, Museum and Oak Tree Takeaway are all nearby.
Corporate
and 'large' events:
The Pavilion is an exceptionally attractive building located at the very centre of Wicksteed Park. With unlimited car parking and easy access from the M1, M11 or A1, it's a perfect location for any medium to very large corporate event. But it's not just the business world that benefits - the great character and charm of the Pavilion makes it ideal for weddings as well.
